FGR.1 Phantom of 43 Squadron and BAC Lightning F6 of 11 Squadron split to begin practice air combat manoeuvres. I’m honoured that my painting featured on all 2017 Guild of Aviation annual exhibition promotional material.
I chose these aircraft because they are in my ‘all-time top ten’ favourite types. The Lightning because it’s an all British designed and built classic thoroughbred and the Phantom because, well, from a painter’s point of view, it’s just ‘Phabulous’… (Phantom, Fabulous… ok, you get the idea)
It just so happened that 2017 and the Phantom’s history corresponded with 25 years since it last flew operationally with the Royal Air Force.
