The Hurricane and Spitfire – both British thoroughbreds and the most famous of fighter aircraft in the Battle of Britain. The slightly larger Hurricane had the more stable gun platform and mostly intercepted German bombers. Ground crew could re-arm and refuel in around 9 mins. The more agile Spitfire could be re-armed and refuelled in 26 mins and took on German fighter aircraft.
