Combat Over Korea – The F-86 ‘Sabre’ and MiG 15 were evenly matched. On 19th July 1953 after his flight of four F-86s was set upon by 16 MiGs, John Glenn pursued and ‘flamed’ a MiG, the second of three he shot down during the Korean War. Colonel John Herschel Glenn Jr. was a much decorated pilot, engineer and astronaut and in 1962, he became the first American to orbit the Earth.
