This 128 Squadron Spitfire, fitted with a 50 Gallon cylindrical drop tank to extend the type’s relatively short range, escorts a damaged B-25 Mitchell returning from a mission in support of D-Day. Both aircraft types played a vital role in securing air cover for the landings.
