“Ready For Anything” – My original oil painting depicts two F-4 Phantoms of 92 Squadron from RAF Wildenrath seen punching out of turbulent weather on an intercept mission during the Cold War.
Typically, fully armed Phantoms were responsible for QRA (Quick Reaction Alert) missions during their deployment to RAF Wildenrath, Germany. Having spoken to many RAF aircrew, weather conditions were often challenging to say the least. Sorties would just as likely start in clear weather and end in thunderous rain. Day or night. Under this type of pressure, staying as calm as possible was the order of the day. Aircrews faced these challenges with professionalism, skill and determination.
